Here are Lamont's Music Notes for March 24th

March 24th, 1986 - Van Halen

Or should we say Van Hagar, because it was on this day in 1986 that Van Halen released their 7th studio album, titled 5150.

Quick hits on 5150:

-The album was the first to be recorded with Sammy Hagar who replaced David Lee Roth, and was -5150 is the name of Eddie Van Halen's home studio,,
-5150 is the California police term for a mentally disturbed person (a reference to Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code).
-5150 was the #1 album on the Billboard Top Albums chart for three straight weeks.
-Prior to the release of this album some record company genius’ advised VH to discontinue the Van Halen name
-Eddie and Alex formally refused. -
Eddie met Sammy Hagar while getting a mechanic to work on his Lamborghini. The pair hit it off and the new singer and band immediately began work on new songs.
-a new Van Halen logo was introduced on the cover of the album.
-VH 5150 sold over 6 million copies and has been certified 6X platinum by the RIAA

Here’s one of my favorite Van Hagar songs, live version of Best Of Both Worlds from 1986.
